Your First Appointment

Before Your Dental Appointment

Whether this is your first dental appointment in a while or if you are looking for a new dentist in North OKC, our Dental Family Center team can make you feel comfortable. Our priority is your oral health. Before your first appointment with us, we will ask you to fill out the online patient information below. This will make your first appointment more efficient.

During Your Dental Appointment

During your first appointment at Dental Family Center, our team will get to know you and your current oral and overall health concerns. We will also talk about your oral health goals. This can be to restore and maintain good oral health, to pursue cosmetic dentistry treatment, or both. After our initial discussion, one of the Dental Family Center dental assistants may take you for a routine dental x-ray. Contrary to popular belief, the x-ray does not admit more radiation than a microwave, thus not putting your overall health at risk. Further, dental x-rays allow Dr. Cohlmia and his team to look below the dental surface to find underlying dental concerns.

Next, our Dental Family Center hygienist will clean and polish your teeth. During this cleaning they are also looking for signs of gum disease. If not treated right away, the gum disease can worsen to an irreversible stage, called periodontal disease. Next, Dr. Cohlmia will conduct an oral health exam to look for concerns in and around your mouth. He will also conduct an oral cancer screening.

After Your Dental Appointment

Oral health is a marathon of good hygiene habits for your entire life. After your initial appointment with Dr. Cohlmia and his team, they will recommend a treatment plan. If you have any immediate dental concerns, they will address those first. Then you can move onto enhancing your smile with cosmetic dentistry, if you would like. At a minimum, you should visit your local dentist in North OKC every six months for a dental cleaning and every year for a dental exam. Between appointments, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing two times a day for two minutes each time and flossing at least once per day.
